ONE IN EIGHT

ONE IN EIGHT was a dedication and meditation for breast cancer survivors who had undergone surgical mastectomy. In a grove of 19 Red Pine trees (scheduled for clear cutting) I carved a female torso into each of the trunks. I then invited 19 women from a breast cancer survivor group to sew their scars into the tree's torsos. I have heard since, that many breast cancer survivors had made the pilgrimage to that site over the subsequent years.
